I want to film/take photos in the Whitsundays. Do I need a permit?

Most filming and photography on the Whitsunday Coast and Islands is covered by a permanent arrangement between the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and Tourism Queensland for filming and photography for the positive promotion of Queensland. Please contact QPWS to confirm the details of your intended activity and whether it is covered. Contact ph. +61 (7) 4967 7355.
 
If filming/taking photos on the water, you may need permission from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Contact ph. +61 (7) 4750 0700.
 
Whitsunday Regional Council is the Local Government for the region and does not require you to lodge a permit, however if you are undertaking filming/photography it is courtesy to advise the Council. Contact email info@whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au

Tourism Whitsundays represents the entire Whitsundays region including the Whitsunday islands and the Whitsunday Coast from Airlie Beach north to Bowen, west to Collinsville and Proserpine and south to Laguna Quays.
