CHRIS JACOBS TO RESUME THE CHAIRMAN'S POSITION - 8 May 2012
Chris Jacobs has resumed the Chairman’s position of Tourism Whitsundays, following the local Government elections.
Chief Executive Officer Peter O’Reilly said Mr Jacobs had done the right thing in standing aside while a conflict of interest existed.
“Now that Chris’s conflict of interest no longer exists, he has resumed his role as Chairman of Tourism Whitsundays,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Mr Jacobs said he was very happy with the indication of improved support for Tourism Whitsundays from Mayor-elect, Jenny Whitney.
“Throughout the Council election many of the candidates came forward offering support for improved and sustainable funding for Tourism Whitsundays, and that is the main reason I got so involved in the campaigning,” Mr Jacobs said.
CEO TO MOVE ON - 11 April 2012
Tourism Whitsundays (TW) Chief Executive Officer Peter O'Reilly, who is also Acting CEO of Enterprise Whitsundays (EW), has today announced that he will not be renewing his contract when it concludes in June.
"Yesterday I informed the TW and EW Boards that following the completion of my five year contract in June I will not be seeking an extension," Mr O'Reilly said.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have been given to lead TW and represent this truly wonderful destination for the last five years, and more recently the opportunity to act in the role of CEO of EW," he said.
"I could not be more proud of the teams at TW and EW and their achievements during my time here, I have great confidence that this very solid team will continue to look after the tourism and economic development interests of the Whitsundays after I'm gone."
Tourism Whitsundays Acting Chairman Adrian Bram said that the Board had reluctantly accepted Peter's resignation.
"Peter has been an excellent CEO of this organisation during a very challenging five year period," Mr Bram said.
"He has built a talented, professional, motivated and qualified team, driven by a comprehensive, performance oriented strategic plan," he said.
"The TW Board will now commence the recruitment process for a new CEO with the aim of having a replacement in place by the end of the financial year."
Mr O'Reilly will conclude his term with Tourism Whitsundays on 15 June.
