Further inland from Bowen, Collinsville is a quaint country town, far enough away from the tourist hubs to be a country retreat, but close enough to retain that same friendly and welcoming attitude of all the Whitsundays locals.
Primarily a mining town, one of the main highlights for history buffs is a visit to the Coalface Museum. There's a small air strip for recreational planes and what must be one of the driest golf courses in Australia! It also features stunning hinterland, a large dam for fishing and watersports and excellent outback four wheel driving.
The Collinsville region also plays host to the Bowen River Rodeo and Camp Draft on the Queens Birthday weekend each June.
