Post-Tropical Cyclone Debbie Visitor Information

Following Tropical Cyclone Debbie, in March, the Whitsunday region has made an amazing recovery and things really are looking “back to normal” for the most part.

Some of the islands have taken the opportunity to close for refurbishments including:
Qualia resort on Hamilton Island – reopening July 1, 2017, following planned renovations, which were brought forward
One & Only Hayman Island – reopening mid-2018
Daydream Island Resort & Spa – reopening mid-2018

Island resorts that are OPEN:
Hamilton Island – OPEN
Palm Bay Resort, Long Island – OPEN

Camping is available on a select number of islands – contact Queensland Parks & Wildlife for details and permits, and Scamper for transfers (camping equipment provided) - www.whitsundaycamping.com.au

Tour and charter operators are back on the water and island transfers are operating as normal, including airport connections. The Reef World pontoon reopened at the end of May. Reef Sleep is due to come back online in October (following upgrades).

Most businesses on the mainland have reopened their doors and are welcoming visitors and patrons. Mainland tours and trips are all operating throughout the region including Airlie Beach, Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville.

The Airlie Beach Hotel, in the centre of town, has been closed for repairs and refurbishments and is due to reopen on August 1, 2017. All other hotels and resorts are operating.

The Airlie Lagoon is currently undergoing maintenance and repairs, and is due to re-open soon.

Come visit and see for yourself – you can have a great experience in the Whitsundays. Why not explore a little further…there are great beaches to the north of the region, in Bowen and at Cape Gloucester, as well as fishing on Lake Proserpine and an ‘outback’ experience awaiting in Collinsville!
