The Whitsundays awaits this Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day is a chance to be romantic – show your loved one you care – and where better to do this than in the wonderfully romantic Whitsundays.
With 74 island wonders and an extensive mainland to explore, there are a host of romantic spots to spend time with your loved one amid the splendour of the Whitsundays.
Here’s our top picks for a romantic interlude in paradise!
Shhhh…it’s a secret
Horseshoe Bay in Bowen is a pretty beach, sheltered by massive boulders and with coral you can walk to. If your partner is a water babe, grab a mask and snorkel right off the beach. Or take a walk up to the lookout for stunning island views…or simply relax under the whispering Sheoaks. It’s hard not to relax on this beach, a well-kept secret until it was voted Queensland’s third best beach in 2016!
What could be more romantic than taking a scenic flight over Heart Reef, a natural coral formation in the shape of a heart, visible only in the Whitsundays. The natural phenomenon has prompted many a wedding proposal and declaration of love and you too could be caught up in the excitement of flying over the Great Barrier Reef with this stunning symbol at its heart.
Picnic on Coral Beach
Pack a picnic, pop some champers in your backpack and take a leisurely hike to Coral Beach, on the Whitsunday mainland. Just a couple of kilometres outside Airlie Beach, this graded walking track weaves a path through majestic coastal pandanus and pops out at a secluded beach comprised completely of coral. The views across to Daydream Island are an added plus.
Jet off together
If you are a couple who crave adventure, a Jetski ride is a romantic way to cover a lot of ground! You can Jetski off the mainland and the islands, and you can even Jetski along the world's number one beach, Whitehaven Beach, on the new Cruise Whitsundays' Whitehaven Beach & Jetski Snorkelling Adventure!
Cocktails at One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill, on Hamilton Island, is one of the most romantic spots in the Whitsundays with views to die for! Long an established part of any island tour, this spot has been supercharged recently with the addition of a bar to make the most of the cooling breezes and views. Cocktails for two, anyone?
Fun at the falls
If cascading waterfalls and swimming holes in lush tropical surrounds make you think of love, then Cedar Creek Falls, on the Whitsunday mainland, are the perfect spot for you. The falls tumble down a sheer cliff face into a deep lagoon that is always fresh and cool thanks to the thick covering of rainforest and vegetation that forms a natural amphitheatre around the falls.
A Good Night's Reef
You and your loved one can discover the peace and tranquillity of the Great Barrier Reef after dark with Cruise Whitsundays' ReefSleep. The popular Reefsleep has doubled its capacity and boosted its menu with catering by four-star restaurant Fish D'Vine, offering fresh, local seafood and hearty classics like char-grilled steak and slow braised lamb shanks. Snuggle up in your dual-swag together and fall asleep watching a million stars twinkle
Love is…a box of Jaffas
There’s something about old movie theatres that’s very romantic and few are more characterful than the Summergarden Theatre, in Bowen. Dating back to 1948, the theatre has a fascinating history – including hosting the Queensland premier of Australia, which was filmed in Bowen – but its movies are bang up to date! Cosy up together in the darkness with a mega-size box of popcorn and some Jaffas.
