Bowen is located along Queensland's central coast in north-eastern Australia, approximately 1,140km north of Brisbane. Situated on the shores of Edgecumbe Bay, 45 minutes north of Airlie Beach, this picturesque seaside town is a relaxed beachcomber’s paradise. An ideal stopover for travellers with access by air, rail and road, getting here from Brisbane is easy!


Access Bowen by air, with direct regular flights from Brisbane into the Whitsunday Coast Airport located at Proserpine. From the airport, Bowen is a 50-minute drive; hire a car for the journey.

Whitsunday Coast Airport is located near Proserpine, approximately 25 minutes to Airlie Beach. The airport is currently serviced by two domestic carriers Virgin Australia, and Jetstar. Virgin Australia and Jetstar offer daily flights from Brisbane.


Bowen, with its beautiful beaches and fringing reef, is an easy 5-minute detour from Queensland's East Coast drive route, the Bruce Highway. Situated at the top of the Whitsundays, halfway between the major North Queensland regional centres of Townsville, Bowen is an ideal stopover for travellers. People travelling south from Cairns and north from Brisbane to Bowen can take the ‘Spirit of Queensland’ train by Queensland Rail, with services for Bowen several times weekly.
