Collinsville is the Heart of the Outback in The Whitsundays, located only 85km west of Bowen. The scenic drive will see you travel through orchards and farmland teeming with wildlife. Far enough away from the tourist hubs to be a country retreat, the close-knit community always offers a friendly and warm welcome to its many visitors.

Features of the region include stunning hinterland, beautiful creeks and camping spots, excellent outback four-wheel-driving, and a large dam for fishing and water sports. Journey a short distance to discover a unique part of our outback heritage at the Bowen River Hotel, where the region plays host to the Bowen River Rodeo and Camp Draft on the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June. It is an excellent event for Whitsunday locals and visitors alike!

Built on mining, the town celebrates its history with its Coalface Experience. Located upstairs at the Collinsville & Scottsville Workers Club, The Coalface Experience uses a combination of interactive displays, audio-visual exhibits, two theatrettes, and historical records to present visitors with a history of the coal mining industry in Collinsville, and an interpretation of the past, present, and future of Queensland’s coal mining industry.

Stop by the Pit Pony monument for a photo and have a drink or a meal at the Pit Pony Tavern – the locals are always willing to share their stories with you.
