Tourism Whitsundays Limited is the peak destination marketing and Regional Tourism Organisation for the Whitsundays Region. The entire Whitsundays region includes the Whitsunday Islands and the mainland towns of Airlie Beach, Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine.

The core role of the Membership Officer is to generate, maintain and grow memberships with the local industry and businesses of the region. The Membership Officer is responsible for ensuring a stable and growing base of financial support for the organisation. 

Reporting to the Sales and Marketing Manager you will provide updates and advice to the management team and contribute to the organisation's direction and strategic objectives. You will form part of a dedicated and cohesive team that develops positive relationships with stakeholders thereby securing support, cooperation, and funding to sustain TW. You will also manage related partnership activities to ensure partners receive value and associated benefits for their partnership. 

Membership Officer expectations, including but not limited to:

  • A strong focus on sales and business development to generate new and renew existing partnerships of the organisation
  • Plan and execute an innovative strategic membership plan to provide value and benefits to members and build their relationship with the organisation
  • Facilitate an efficient and successful membership renewal process in conjunction with finance to ensure budgets and targets are met 
  • Facilitate media partnerships to enhance TW's ability to deliver greater services
  • Prepare reports monthly for departments on membership achievements and activities to be presented to the Board
  • Develop reporting procedures to ensure all departments receive updated information on members products and services
  • Undertake a comprehensive briefing with all new members to ensure they have full understanding of the benefits and value provided by their level of membership to ensure they are able to maximise the benefits

Skills and competencies for selection process:

  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, development, implementation and management of comprehensive membership, sponsorship, and/or business development programs in a corporate environment
  • Proven success in setting and meeting challenging membership, sponsorship and/or commercial financial targets within agreed timelines
  • Must demonstrate a strong ability to convert sales 
  • Superior skills in relationship building, market knowledge and influencing ability are also essential
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
  • Demonstrated ability to connect, develop and maintain effective working relationships through good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated strong organisation and time-management skills
  • Strong skills in MS Office - including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a database and produce statistical and written reports
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to TW, the community and achieving goals 
  • Ability to be analytical in problem-solving
  • Team player with the ability to work autonomously out of the office to achieve outcomes
  • Creative thinker with the ability to negotiate mutually beneficial partnerships

Experience and qualifications preferred: 

  • Prior experience in a sales or similar role vital 
  • Prior experience in events management an advantage
  • Prior experience in PR/promotions and advertising an advantage
  • CRM (customer relationship management) knowledge preferred
  • Sales and/or marketing experience in the service industry would be an advantage

The Whitsunday Clipper Carnival Board is looking for an experienced Event Manager to drive the successful implementation of the Whitsunday Clipper Race Carnival in 2018.

The Whitsunday Clipper Race Carnival - 2018 will be Queensland's pre-eminent National and Global sailing Carnival. To be hosted in the Whitsundays biennially, the Carnival will generate tourism and event activity throughout the Whitsunday region and broader Queensland. As Clipper Race Carnival Event Manager you will be responsible for every aspect of the event implementation, including planning, sponsorship, marketing, managing the budget, risk management and evaluation. Demonstrated past experience in running medium-large scale regional/national events will be a key criteria for shortlisting successful candidates. The main objective for the Event Manager will be to generate additional visitation and visitor expenditure in the local and broader regional economy. This will be delivered through the implementation of a calendar of diverse and stimulating events and activities with sailing and the Whitsundays hero experiences as the centrepiece. The Event Manager will be a full-time position located in the Whitsundays from August 2017 - March 2018.

The successful candidate will be: 

  • Responsible for the full implementation of the event management plan including planning, coordination, marketing and communications, sponsorship, logistics, budget management and evaluation. 
  • Responsible for achieving event goals and KPI's including visitor numbers, sponsorship investment, ticketing sales, and event reporting. 
  • Represent the carnival with key event stakeholders such as Tourism and Events Queensland, Clipper Ventures, tourism businesses, suppliers and other regional partners. 
  • Be the key contact for all parties associated externally with the event, Council, Police, Traffic Control, Emergency Services, Security, ticketing etc. 

Skills and experience: 

  • 5 years proven experience in managing events and/or festivals
  • Tourism/event management qualifications
  • Proficient financial management experience
  • Extensive marketing and communications experience
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent vendor management skills
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation ability
  • Well organised with multi-tasking skills
  • Able to handle a fast paced environment
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and well within a team
  • Current drivers license
  • Available to work weekends and evenings
