Adapt your social media messaging during COVID-19 

With a large portion of the global population currently at home, activity on social media platforms has increased significantly. At present, our feeds are filled with a lot of doom & gloom, information on essential services, who's open, who's closed, and a plethora of other do's and dont's. 

Now, more than ever, with the current travel ban in place, we need to activate and engage with our followers and adapt our existing messaging to suit the current global situation. Click here for more information on how to adapt your social media messaging throughout the COVID-19 crisis. 

Whitsunday YouTube Channel

Drawing on inspiration from the daily zoo feeding we are now able to view online, TW is keen to relaunch the Whitsunday YouTube Channel by presenting a series of 'behind the scenes' in The Whitsundays videos. This content will then be shared through social media platforms and our networks.

How can you get involved? Members and stakeholders are invited to get involved and contribute one or a series of content pieces by filming behind the scenes videos of their product, experience or even, farm. While these videos are aimed to inspire anyone, the target audience is children/families – we want to get children inspired with the various things in The Whitsundays, so they encourage their families to make the first holiday out of isolation, The Whitsundays!

360° tour of The Whitsundays    

Thanks to our partnership with Mackay Tourism, Tourism Whitsundays has the opportunity to promote next-level virtual tours of the region on our social channels and website. This will enable consumers to 'Explore' the region through the images.

How can you get involved? If you have any 360° images in 2:1 equirectangular projection image ration at a good size, please send them through to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The timing is tight, as we need to ascertain if we have members with these images available to us before we confirm we can participate in this initiative. The size quality needs to be better than 8Mb and less than 20Mb (normally 12-14Mb is good quality).

Opportunities with Virtually Australia

Virtually Australia is an innovative media platform showcasing tourism operators and destinations all over Australia. This is achieved through live and on-demand virtual tours; inspired through a time of great adversity the platform aims to provide an innovative solution for the Australian tourism industry to support them during and beyond this tumultuous time.
As a special offer, Virtually Australia have waived their set up fees for members of Tourism Whitsundays.            

This platform allows consumers to experience destinations and experiences through live and on-demand virtual tours, journeying through your experience as if they were really there, with tour guides sharing local stories with passion. Tourism Whitsundays Membership Wavier

On Monday 23 March, the board passed a motion that any 2019/20 Members of Tourism Whitsundays will be entitled to a six-month waiver of membership. Either commencing on 1 April 2020 (for those who are on direct debit and would like to access this now) or from 1 July 2020.
