Airlie Beach is the Heart of The Whitsundays and is renowned for its laid-back, tropical holiday vibe. Airlie Beach Lagoon

Soak up the sun and enjoy a swim at the Airlie Beach Lagoon, a massive swimming pool bordered by sandy beach areas and grassy knolls, located within close distance to the main street of Airlie Beach. With postcard views over the Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands, the lagoon is the perfect place to kick off your tropical adventure on the mainland. The free public Lagoon and surrounding parkland area also features a children’s splash pool and playground equipment, providing the perfect location for families. There are also several barbeque facilities situated throughout the lagoon’s parklands.

Just a short stroll from the lagoon, on the Airlie Beach foreshore, you will find further barbeque facilities and a new gigantic children’s playground standing 10.5m high.

Sun & Sand

Enjoy the sand, sea and spectacular views across the bay at Boathaven Beach, just a short stroll from the Airlie Beach Lagoon and main street. The area's first true all-tide beach, Boathaven Beach is a lovely spot for swimming, sunbathing and lapping up the views of the ocean and islands.

Alternatively, meander along the Bicentennial Boardwalk to Cannonvale Beach, taking in the magnificent views across the Coral Sea, with the bonus of several coffee stops available along the way. With a stinger net for safe swimming in the summer months, a children's playground, and a delightful cafe on the foreshore, Cannonvale Beach is a favourite spot for families to play.

Walking Trails

There are many beautiful places to walk in and around Airlie Beach, including the rainforest-clad hills of the Conway National Park.

With walks to suit all ages and fitness levels. From the family friendly Airlie Creek Track to the stunning views of Mount Rooper in Shute Harbour, the challenging but rewarding Honeyeater Lookout and the 3-day trek of the Whitsunday Great Walk.

Have the camera fully charged as you experience a myriad of ancient flora and fauna and some unique indigenous wildlife, such as the Proserpine Rock Wallaby.

Water Activities

Need some retail therapy? The Whitsundays offers a variety of shops, with many stores having their own distinct style. Jewellery, homewares, artworks and Indigenous artefacts are all to be found, as well as fashions, food and fun things for the kids.

Not surprisingly, the Airlie Beach Main Street is also dotted with souvenir shops with colourful swimwear, sarongs, sandals and sunhats.
