How will The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars work? 

There will be $1.2M in vouchers worth $200.00 (inc. GST) up for grabs for Queensland residents travelling to The Whitsundays, Heart of the Great Barrier Reef. When they book an eligible tourism experience, the voucher will cover 50 per cent of the cost, up to a maximum value of $200.00 (inc. GST).  

Visitors can only claim one voucher per person, and the vouchers, and any remaining balance, are not transferable. 

Vouchers are activated once a booking is made, so it will be first in, best dressed to make a booking with your voucher for a Whitsundays tour or experience.  Your voucher will have an expiry date on it, please check your voucher confirmation for this information.  Your experience must be booked prior to this date (or before the funding is exhausted).

How do I access The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars?

Step 1:

Check your eligibility:

  • Be over 18 years of age at the time of booking
  • Be a Queensland resident

When can the vouchers be used?

Vouchers are valid for the travel period 12:00 am (AEST) 4 May 2021 – 11:59 am (AEST) 30 June 2021. However, operator restrictions may apply and are subject to operator availability. There are limited funds, vouchers will be redeemed on a first in best dress basis, if you do not claim your voucher and the funds are exhausted, your voucher will be ineligible. Your voucher will have an expiry date on it, please check your voucher confirmation for this information.  Your experience must be booked prior to this date (or before the funding is exhausted).

What is a tourism experience? 

The following outlines examples of what tourism experiences can and cannot be included in a booking. 

Inclusions: 

  • Land-based activities. For example, skydiving, Tuk Tuk and Segway.
  • Water-based activities, reef and marine tourism experiences including snorkelling, scenic cruises, kayaking and jetboating.
  • Family passes for a tourism experience, including adults and concessions.
  • Scenic flights. For example, helicopter, light aircraft.
  • Overnight crewed sailing experiences and multi-day expeditions.

NOTE: The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars voucher can be used with multiple operators and/or experiences but will not exceed a total discount of $200.00 (incl GST) and must be processed in one transaction. The booking system will automatically apply a discount to each participating operator in the payment section of the booking.  

Exclusions: 

  • Accommodation and overnight stays on island resorts.
  • Bareboating.
  • Annual Passes.
  • Events. For example, concerts, sporting events and other paid ticketed events.
  • Gift shops and shopping outlets.
  • Independent transport that is not part of a tour. For example, airport transfer, shuttle bus and public transport.
  • Rentals/hire including cars, bicycles, kayaks, SUP, boat and leisure craft that is not part of a tourism experience.
  • Restaurants, bars and cafes.
  • Beauty treatments such as waxing and spas.

Why can’t the vouchers be used for accommodation, restaurants or transport? 

The purpose of this campaign is to encourage Queenslanders to support The Whitsundays tourism operators by booking a tourism experience.  

What is The Whitsundays region? 

This is the area covered by the Tourism Whitsundays Regional Tourism Organisation. This includes the entire Local Government Area managed by the Whitsunday Regional Council, including:

  • Airlie Beach 
  • Bowen 
  • Collinsville 
  • Proserpine
  • Great Barrier Reef 
  • Island Resorts 
  • Whitehaven Beach
  • Whitsunday Islands

Are Whitsundays residents eligible for the vouchers? 

Yes, locals are encouraged to apply for their Whitsundays Holiday Dollars voucher.  

When can the vouchers be used? 

There’s no block out periods for the vouchers, they can be used anytime as long as it is between 4 May 2021 and 11:59pm AEST, Wednesday 30 June 2021, subject to operator availability. Vouchers are activated once a booking is made, so it will be first in, best dressed to make a booking with your voucher for a Whitsundays tour or experience.  Your voucher will have an expiry date on it, please check your voucher confirmation for this information.  Your experience must be booked prior to this date (or before the funding is exhausted).

Are vouchers transferrable? 

No, the vouchers are not transferrable – they are valid for use by the registrant. The name on the registration must match the name on the booking. These details may be validated on check-in. 

My voucher won’t work what should I do?

  • Have you entered the correct voucher? The voucher field is case sensitive.
  • Has your voucher been used already? Each voucher can be only used once. When a transaction is complete, the voucher is automatically deactivated.
  • You can use one voucher for multiple experiences in one transaction, however the booking system will not accept more than one voucher per transaction. Ensure you are not using more than one voucher per transaction.
  • The voucher may not be applicable to this product or service. Please contact the Whitsundays Visitor Information Centre for further information.
  • The vouchers will be available to visitors (and locals) who are in the region from 4 May – 30 June 2021, or until the quota is exhausted, whichever is sooner. If funds are exhausted, your voucher will no longer be valid.

I successfully registered for a voucher but did not receive my email, what should I do?

Vouchers will be emailed after registering. Please ensure you check your spam, promotions, or junk email folders.

The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars landing page is not working.

What if I don’t spend the whole $200.00? 

The voucher is valid for one use only, up to a maximum of $200.00 (inc. GST).  You can not use the remaining balance of your voucher, it becomes void.

What if I don’t use my voucher? 

It will no longer be valid once funds dedicated to The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars campaign have been claimed or after 11:59pm AEST, Wednesday 30 June 2021, whichever is first. Vouchers are activated once a booking is made, so it will be first in, best dressed to make a booking with your voucher for a Whitsundays tour or experience.  Your voucher will have an expiry date on it, please check your voucher confirmation for this information.  Your experience must be booked prior to this date (or before the funding is exhausted).

Can vouchers be used for tourism experiences already booked? 

The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars campaign is intended for new bookings only. You cannot cancel an existing booking, to then remake a new booking with Whitsundays Holiday Dollars.

What if the operator cancels my booking?

If the operator cancels your booking and an alternative date or experience cannot be agreed upon, refer to the terms and conditions outlined in your booking confirmation to understand what refund you will receive on the balance you have paid. What if I need to cancel my booking? Can I get a new Whitsundays Holiday Dollars voucher?

If you cancel your travel, you will need to refer to the cancellation policy of the tourism operator you booked. You will not be entitled to new Whitsundays Holiday Dollars, but you may be able to change your dates if the operator agrees. You can review the terms and conditions associated with your booking in your booking confirmation. For all other help, contact the Whitsundays Visitor Information Centre.

Can more than one member of a family or travel group apply for a voucher?

Yes, anyone residing in Queensland over the age of 18 can obtain a voucher. One voucher can be used per transaction. If two or more members of one family or travel group were successful in receiving a voucher, they could make separate bookings for the same experience, or use them for different experiences.

I don’t have a Queensland Driver’s Licence or a Queensland Proof of Age Card – can I still apply?

Queenslanders are eligible to access The Whitsundays Holiday Dollars if they're a Queensland resident over the age of 18. A driver’s licence or proof of age card will be used to validate an entrant’s eligibility. I have a voucher that I want to use for an overnight sailing experience which departs on June 30th but does not return until early July. Is my voucher eligible for this tour?

No. All travel must be completed by 30 June 2021.

Can I book more than one experience per voucher?

Yes, you can book multiple experiences using your voucher, but it will need to be done in the one booking transaction.

Your personal voucher will apply 50% off your total shopping cart with participating operators to maximum of $200.00 including GST.

Does the Whitsundays Holiday Dollars require me to make a minimum spend in order to be valid?

No. You don’t need to make a minimum spend in order to enjoy 50% off with up to $200.00 on an eligible tour or experience. However, if you don’t use the full $200 value in one booking, you can’t apply any remaining balance to further bookings or redeem it for cash.

Is there unlimited vouchers?

No. There are not unlimited vouchers. Once the funds have been exhausted, if people still have vouchers that they have not redeemed, these vouchers will be ineligible.
