The 2021 Whitsundays Arts Festival will be held from Friday evening 17 September to Sunday afternoon 19 September on the Airlie Beach Foreshore. The Festival will be a grand celebration of our creative community and inspiring environment. The theme of this year’s festival is art place and the 2021 Festival will have a multicultural focus. New to the festival is the inception of the Whitsundays Art Prize, a large visual arts exhibition attracting top artists in the region. Tracey Heathwood, Director of Artspace in Mackay has been selected to judge the 2021 prizes. Lantern making workshops will be held on-site during Saturday and entertainment will focus on a variety of performing arts. A large scale lantern installation will be created in pre-festival workshops by local artists under the guidance of Woodford Fire Event “fire director” Lily Podgers. The art and crafts filled Handmade markets will again be offered all day Sunday and the art exhibition will remain open to the public throughout the Festival. Workshops will run during the day in the large marquee on Sunday with the focus on a variety of art forms and movement. The hit band of the 2020 Festival, Fat Cigars, returns to entertain on opening night and lanterns will parade at dusk on Saturday 18 September.
