Where is Bowen and how do you get there?
Bowen is on the northern edge of The Whitsundays, about an hour's drive from Airlie Beach along the Bruce Highway. The town sits on Edgecumbe Bay, and Whitsunday Coast Airport near Proserpine is the nearest commercial airport, around an hour south.
What are the best beaches in Bowen?
Bowen has eight beaches, all within a few minutes of the town centre. Horseshoe Bay is popular for shore snorkelling and home to Bywa, an intertidal marine sculpture. Queens Beach suits families with calm shallows. Murray Bay and Rose Bay connect to the Cape Edgecumbe Walking Trail, and Rose Bay has fringing reef close to shore.
Can you snorkel from shore in Bowen?
Yes. Horseshoe Bay and Rose Bay both have fringing reef you can reach from the beach. Horseshoe Bay is also home to Bywa, an intertidal marine sculpture. No boat is required.
When is mango season in Bowen?
Bowen's mango harvest typically runs from October to January, with timing varying by season. Roadside stalls sell mangoes and other locally grown produce during harvest, and Bowen Community Markets are held at Hansen Park every Sunday, year-round.
