The September school holidays take place during some of the finest weather that the Whitsundays enjoys all year long: there are clear skies, calm seas, whales around the islands, and water that is settled enough for first-time snorkellers.
The seventeen-day period stretches from 19 September to 5 October 2026, and below are ten activities to make the most of them, ranging from a morning visit to Whitehaven all the way through to whale watching and the school holiday shows.

Proserpine Entertainment Centre has lined the holidays with family shows. The Librarian, a bookish circus adventure, plays Tuesday 22 September, and Teeny Tiny Stevies bring their Brain Fart Regional Tour on Friday 25 September.

Swap the ocean for the Proserpine River wetlands. Whitsunday Crocodile Safari runs guided boat tours past wild saltwater crocs, then a tractor-drawn wagon ride through the wetlands with an Aussie barbecue lunch.
