The first day goes straight to the icons with Ocean Rafting: Heart Reef from the air in the morning, Whitehaven Beach underfoot by lunch, and the easy rhythm of Airlie Beach main street to finish.
Start at Fat Frog Beach Cafe on Cannonvale Beach, a local favourite for strong coffee, a generous breakfast menu and water views. It connects directly to the Bicentennial Walkway if you want to stretch your legs before the day winds up. Grab an outside seat among the locals.
Arrange pickup in advance with Ocean Rafting for the 7:25am scenic flight. The 60-minute flight departs from Whitsunday Airport and traces the islands, reef and Heart Reef before the day returns to the water.
Back at Coral Sea Marina, a quick briefing sets up the Ocean Rafting leg to Whitehaven Beach. The boat is fast, open-air and built to move through the Whitsunday Passage.
Choose the Southern Lights route for snorkelling spots and maximum time on Whitehaven Beach. The short walk from Tongue Bay to the Hill Inlet lookout earns the view: white silica sand swirling through turquoise, with stingrays gliding the shallows below.
Back on shore, the free Airlie Beach Lagoon is the easiest swim in town. Shake off the salt, claim some lawn and ease into the evening.
Paradiso on the Esplanade does woodfired pizza with the Coral Sea across the road. Afterwards, the main street is compact enough to follow the evening on foot.
